While running a website or a blog it is vital to research keywords for your articles. It is of equal importance to monitor how your keywords are ranking within the major search engines. By doing so you can see how your site is preforming, and if you need to make some changes. SEO Centro has a tool called Rank Checker that allows you to view how specific keywords rank within Google, Yahoo and Bing.
To use the tool go to the webpage and enter the keyword you wish to search. It is best to pick a word you have set as a keyword within your site. Inset the keyword, then put in the domain of your website. This checks for links within the search engine that contain the keyword mentioned, but also point to your site. Last, you can put in a competitor’s domain in to compare his ranking with yours. Once you are ready, complete the simple captcha and press the submit button. The site will generate your results, and you will be able to check the ranking within google, bing and yahoo for the keyword you specified.
If your keyword is not found, try a couple to make sure things are working. If nothing works, then you may have a problem with your website. Make sure search engines are being allowed to index your site by looking for a robots.txt file in your main site directory. If one is missing, then everything should be allowed. Click here to learn more about robots.txt. Search engines can be funny, so do not expect your rankings to remain stable, or to be at the top for every keyword. For this site, some of my keywords rank in the top 5 of Google, but do not appear in Yahoo.
Use this tool to monitor your progress. As your site matures, your rankings should improve. SEO Centro’s Rank checker is a great tool I plan to use often.
