If you are running a new blog, one of your first concerns is getting listed in Google, as search engines are very important in generating traffic to your blog. The problem is, out of the box, it may take days or even weeks to get listed in Google, which is damning if you have content that is time sensitive. So, how can you get listed in Google quickly? Below are a few methods I have learned from others established in the industry.

Ping your Blog Post

The authors at Marketing Syntax have given very sound advice on getting listed faster. Their tip is to add the top ping sites to your wordpress blog. Once you post an article, these sites will be notified, and will notify Google about the update. Marketing Syntax claim Google indexes them within 30-40 minutes. This makes sense, as many news stories get listed quickly. Below is the list of the best ping sites of 2009:

<p>http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2</p>

<p>http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php</p>
<p>http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php</p>
<p>http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/</p>
<p>http://rpc.pingomatic.com/</p>
<p>http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2</p>

<p>http://www.blogshares.com/rpc.php</p>
<p>http://www.blogstreet.com/xrbin/xmlrpc.cgi</p>
<p>http://ping.blo.gs/</p>
<p>

To add these ping sites to WordPress, first log into the administration area. Next, go to Settings. Under Settings click on the Writing Tab. At the bottom of the page, under Update Services, add each URL from the list above on its own line. Once done, click the save changes button. For now on, when you publish a new post, all these sites will be notified, which will help your post to be listed in Google faster.

Submit to Social Media Services

The authors at Social Media also suggest you submit your articles to social media sites such as Digg. This is a smart decision, as the more networks that know of your blog, the more traffic you will receive. Submit each article you write to as many sites as possible. Submit to Digg, Stumbleupon, etc.

Inform all your Sites about your Article

If you are using myspace, note your article there. If you are on twitter, tweet about it. If you have a facebook account, list your article there. On all your sites, list your article. It cannot hurt to list your articles on all your sites. Include a signature in your e-mails pointing to all your sites, so all your recipients have access to all your sites. Exposure is key.

If you follow the techniques listed above, you will have an easier time getting traffic, and getting indexed in Google. No list is perfect, so if you have any comments or suggestions, let me know!

Update:

After using these techniques, I got indexed within 27 minutes in google. Below is the screenshot:

I would say these techniques work well.
